SBI Holdings and Solana Launch Strategic Alliance for On-Chain Financial Markets in Japan
SBI Holdings and Solana Foundation create a joint venture to build on-chain financial markets in Japan, focusing on stablecoins, tokenized assets, and cross-border settlements.

What happened
SBI Holdings, a Japanese company managing over $230 billion in assets, and the Solana Foundation announced a strategic joint venture to develop on-chain financial markets in Japan. This initiative, under the renowned entity SBI R3 Japan which will be renamed SBI Solana Global, will leverage the Solana blockchain to drive markets for stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and cross-border settlement mechanisms.
The Japanese financial group collaborates with Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), one of the globally systemically important banks (G-SIB), to carry out this project aimed at establishing a Japanese on-chain market with global reach.
Additionally, Solana shared data showing growing adoption of new assets on its network: in the past six months, newly launched assets on Solana recorded a volume of $3.5 billion across 14 million transactions, mainly driven by tokens originating from other ecosystems such as Avalanche (AVAX), HYPE, Uniswap (UNI), or MON, which now have significant trading volume on Solana via platforms like Sunrise.
Furthermore, Solana reaffirmed its commitment to its roots in San Francisco, emphasizing that the network remains active and expanding despite previous criticisms.
Why it matters
This alliance is significant for the crypto and blockchain industry because it links Solana’s infrastructure, known for its speed and low transaction costs, with one of Japan’s largest financial players. Developing local on-chain financial markets that can operate with yen-denominated stablecoins, tokenized assets, and international settlements could accelerate integration between traditional and decentralized finance, building a bridge between both worlds.
The collaboration also aims to expand the use and liquidity of foreign assets on Solana, integrating tokens from various blockchains and diversifying financial activity within its network. The active involvement of major Japanese institutions brings legitimacy and potential institutional adoption that could favor the evolution of the Solana ecosystem and its global acceptance.
What remains to be confirmed
Although official information confirms the formation of the joint venture and the general objectives of the project, timelines for operational implementation and specific technical features of the financial market to be built on Solana have not been detailed. It is also not disclosed how local regulations in Japan will be managed or which entities will oversee this on-chain market.
Moreover, the exact scope of cross-border transactions and interoperability with other blockchains or traditional financial systems is unknown.
